Currently when developing robots you need to go through many iterations, each taking months, each needing a lot of repeated design, manufacturing and debugging work.

By doing the iterations in simulation automatically, we can bring down the whole process down to days. Advances in robotic simulation and reinforcement learning mean we’re now close to training and evaluating a robot in seconds. Even though there wouldn’t be human intuition going into each iteration, by going through millions of designs, it would still be able to reach much better designs than would be possible traditionally.

You cannot automate robot development without being able to try out different robots, measure if their speed, quality, reliability, independence etc. are all as predicted and iterating until the design automation platform is able to design every robot perfectly.
